In today's world of Internet, more than 80% of all search engine users uses Google for finding information. That is why you need to follow Google guidelines for each part of you Internet Marketing strategy. Same with Backlinks.
But what are Backlinks? In internet terminology a backlink is a link coming to your web page from some other web page. Numbers of inbound links determines the popularity and rank of your page. It is almost like voting. One vote, one backlink. If your site is having many votes, you will have high position in Google rank.
Here are a couple of advices on what "big G" likes and what don't like about Backlinks.
First, you need an informative, unique and quality content on your site. Satisfied visitors will comment about your page on other places on Net, like forums and blogs, and leave a link to your site. That is how you will get a huge number of so-called "natural" inbound links. These are the links that "big G" loves the most.
If you doing your own commenting campaign, try to live comments on pages related to your niche. Leave comments related to topic, and use your main keyword as anchor text.
If you see that some site is over commented, that should ring you the spam alarm. So maybe is better to leave comment on some other place.
Some people think that sites with high PR are best for having a link. That is true but only if you trying to get higher PR for your page. In terms of backlinking, it is irrelevant. Because, if some page is currently PR0, it doesn't mean that in next PR change will not gain higher PR.
And for the end, try to avoid link farms at any cost. Google will detect them and your site will be penalized, and it's very hard to be rehabilitated after that. So, keep it clean.
